To: NIE Staff & Students

We would like to inform you that Computer Services Centre has engaged NCS Ltd to upgrade NIE wireless network - Wireless@NIE. The new wireless network uses latest technology that promises better stability, seamless roaming, higher bandwidth and convenience for mobile device users. In addition, we are expanding the wireless coverage and density for better user experience within NIE campus.

The upgrading work will start from 15 June and it is estimated to complete by 15 August 2009. The work will be carried out in phases as follows:

First phase - Teaching areas (e.g. tutorial rooms, lecture theaters, labs, student hub)
Duration: 2 weeks

Second phase - Common indoor areas (e.g. corridors, meeting rooms, offices, etc)
Duration: 5 weeks

Last phase - Outdoor areas (e.g. car parks, sport facilities)
Duration: 2 weeks

Note: The stated duration for each phase serves as an estimation and the progress will vary according to site conditions and accessibility.

Users may experience intermittent wireless connection for the affected areas because he/she may be randomly associated between old and new wireless network, or the user may experience poor signal strength while the work is being carried out at nearby area.

We apologize for any inconvenience caused and we strive to minimize disruption to our wireless users during this period.
